CLINTON, Miss. - The Agnes Scott cross country team had a strong showing at the Collegiate Conference of the South Championship on Friday morning, as they finished in a school-best 4th place in the young history of the CCS Championships. The Scotties (96 points) improved on last year's 5th place showing, while narrowly missing out on 3rd place, placing only three points behind preseason favorite Piedmont (93). Newcomer Asbury ran to the team title with a team total of 42 points, followed by Covenant with 61.
For the Scotties,
Jane Scanlan-Emigh led the way, placing in 7th place (25:25.05), followed by her teammate,
Rachel Arwood, who crossed the line next in 8th place (25:28.93) just three seconds behind. Both runners were named to the Second Team All-Conference in a day of near-misses, as the Top 6 finishers earn first-team honors.
Lauren Miller (26th, 27:01),
Mari Walsh (32nd, 28:21) and
Jordan Schrage (33rd, 28:37) would round out the finishers for the Scotties.
To put perspective on the runners' performances, this was the second time the Scotties hit the course at Choctaw Trails this season, having taken part in the Belhaven Invitational on the same course on October 5, 2024. Scanlan-Emigh improved over 1:20 from her previous time (26:52), while Miller dropped 30 seconds from her previous effort, Walsh improved 1 minute and 14 seconds, and Schrage also took off over a minute from her previous time. Arwood did not compete in the Belhaven Invitational the first time around.Â
The Scotties' improvement has them headed in the right direction as they will return to Choctaw Trails in two weeks to see if the third time is a charm, as they take on the rest of the Region in the NCAA Division III Regional on November 16, 2024. Live stats will be available for the race.
