CLINTON, Miss. - The Agnes Scott College cross country team returned to the course this weekend as they traveled to Collegiate Conference of the South rival, Belhaven University, to take part in the Belhaven Invitational at Choctaw Trails in Clinton, Mississippi. In an event featuring teams from multiple divisions, Agnes Scott finished 9th out of 16 teams, besting the hosts, Belhaven (11th) as well as NCAA Division I Jackson State (12th), along with multiple NCAA Division II programs.
In the 6k race, the Scotties were led for the second consecutive race by sophomore
Jane Scanlan-Emigh, who finished the race in 41st place in a time of 26:52. Senior
Lauren Miller was the next Scottie across the finish line, taking 51st in a time of 27:31.
Mari Walsh (71st, 29:35),
Jordan Schrage (73rd, 29:50) and
Sofia Barrett (86th, 31:35) completed the scoring for the Scotties on the day, while
Tess Dishaw returned to the course for the Scotties, finishing in 101st place.
Berry University won the event, scoring 35 points while taking 3 of the top 5 places in the team scoring. They were followed by NCAA Division II's West Florida (53) and Mississippi College (62). Agnes Scott finished 4th amongst NCAA Division III prorgrams, behind Berry, Oglethorpe and Millsaps.
Mississippi State's Hayley Ogle was the individual medalist, finishing the course 43 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor, as she crossed the line in 21:55.27.
Agnes Scott will return to the road in two weeks, as they take part in the USC Upstate on Saturday, October 19, 2024. The 5k event will take part at 9:00 a.m. at Roger Milliken Center in Spartanburg, S.C. Meet information can be found
