JACKSON, Miss. -
Rachel Arwood ran a season-best time of 24:51 to lead the Agnes Scott cross country team to a 20th place finish at the NCAA South Regional on Saturday, placing 69th in the race, which was won by Washington and Lee University, who had four runners finish in the Top 10 to beat out Emory University.
The Scotties were paced by the performance of Arwood, who dropped a whopping 37 seconds off of her previous best on the same course at Choctaw Trails, which was also the host course for the Collegiate Conference of the South Championships on November 1.
Jane Scanlan-Emigh was the next Scottie to cross the finish line, finishing in 25:34 in 93rd place.
Mari Walsh finished her career as a Scottie with an impressive improvement from the CCS Championships, dropping nearly a minute off of her CCS finish, clocking in at 27:28 for a 133rd place finish.
Lauren Miller (28:07, 139th) and
Jordan Schrage (28:19, 141st) finished shortly behind one another, with Schrage improving by 18 seconds over her CCS performance.
Miller and Walsh complete incredible careers for the Scotties, anchoring the roster for the past several years. The Scotties will look to the offseason and recruiting to replace both of them, in addition to senior
Tess Dishaw, who was limited this season due to injuries in her participation, but was also a key ingredient for the Scotties in recent years.
