Freshman Finished 7th in Conference Scoring, 2nd in Rebounding

ATLANTA, Ga. (February 25, 2025) – The Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) has announced its 2024-25 CCS women's basketball all-conference honorees, as voted on by the league's head coaches. Piedmont's Andelin Hill has been named CCS Player of the Year, while Asbury's Haleigh Releford takes home Defensive Player of the Year honors. Belhaven's Ally Alford earned Sixth Woman of the Year, and Asbury's Emily Sizemore was selected as Rookie of the Year. Leading Asbury to a historic first season in the CCS, Chad Mayes was named Coach of the Year.

Player of the Year | Andelin Hill, Piedmont
A dominant force on both ends of the court, Hill was a consistent game-changer for Piedmont, earning five CCS Player of the Week honors throughout the season. The senior forward was a double-double machine, recording 14 total, including nine in conference play. She finished top three in the CCS in scoring (14.6 points per game) and led the league in rebounding (10.7 rebounds per game), field goal percentage (.577), and free throw percentage (.862). The Georgia native also showcased her defensive presence, ranking second in the conference in blocked shots (29). She notched six 20+ point performances, proving to be a key factor in Piedmont's success this season.

Defensive Player of the Year | Haleigh Releford, Asbury
Releford anchored Asbury's defense, setting the tone with relentless pressure and a knack for creating turnovers. She played in and started all 25 games, leading the team with 12.8 points per game (8th in CCS) while also averaging 5.3 rebounds per game. However, her biggest impact came on defense, where she led the conference with 79 steals (3.2 per game)— ranking first in the CCS. The Kentucky native has been named both CCS Player of the Week and Asbury Bluegrass Orthopaedics Player of the Week recipient this season.

Sixth Woman of the Year | Ally Alford, Belhaven
Alford thrived in her role off the bench, making her presence felt on both ends of the floor. A versatile playmaker, she led the Blazers in steals (60) and was often tasked with defending the opponent's top perimeter threat. Offensively, she finished fifth in scoring  in conference play while ranking third in assists and assist-to-turnover ratio. A dangerous shooter, she was top five in the CCS in three-pointers per game and ranked among the top 15 in both field goal and three-point percentage in conference play.

Rookie of the Year | Emily Sizemore, Asbury
Sizemore made an immediate impact in her collegiate debut, emerging as Asbury's second-leading scorer while starting all 25 games. She averaged 12.0 points per game (8th in CCS) on an efficient 47% shooting (4th in CCS), including 37% from beyond the arc. A consistent threat at the free-throw line, she converted 82% (2nd in CCS) of her attempts. In addition to her scoring, Sizemore contributed 4.0 rebounds per game, 2.6 assists per game (5th in CCS), and 2.2 steals per game (10th in CCS). She was also recognized as CCS Rookie of the Week five times this season.

Coach of the Year | Chad Mayes, Asbury
In Asbury's first season in the CCS, Mayes led the Eagles to a 17-8 overall record and a 14-2 conference mark, securing a share of the Regular Season Championship. Under his leadership, Asbury set a program record with 12 consecutive wins during conference play. Mayes became the all-time winningest coach in program history, surpassing 121 career victories. His squad ranked fourth in the CCS in scoring and second in points allowed per game, finishing the season with a +10.2 scoring margin (2nd in CCS). The Eagles also led the conference in three-pointers made, steals (369), and steals per game (14.8).

Asbury led with five selections, followed by Belhaven, Huntingdon, and Piedmont each with three selections. LaGrange, Maryville, and Covenant each had two selections. Agnes Scott and Wesleyan each had one player honored.

The 2024-25 CCS Women's Basketball Championship gets underway today with quarterfinal matchups as No. 3 Belhaven hosts No. 6 Huntingdon and No. 4 Maryville takes on No. 5 LaGrange. The winners will move on to the semifinals on Friday, February 28, where top-seeded Piedmont and No. 2 Asbury await. Piedmont University will host both the semifinals and the championship game on Saturday, March 1, where the tournament champion will be decided.
