DECATUR, Ga. - The Agnes Scott basketball team celebrated their senior class this evening at home, breaking open a close game in the 4th quarter and cruising to a 61-41 win over visiting Wesleyan College in a Collegiate Conference of the South matchup. Three players were celebrated for their contributions to the program as they prepare for the end of their senior seasons.
Senior
Ivey Portis made the most of her senior night, racking up 13 points and 8 rebounds for the Scotties (3-18, 2-10 CCS). Two freshmen also had a significant impact on the evening, as
Anissa Brailsford continued her strong play as of late, registering her fourth double-double of the season, and second in a row, as she put up 11 points and pulled down a team-high 15 rebounds. Classmate
Zania Gay also dropped 13 points for the Scotties, using her slashing play to draw numerous fouls on her way to the basket, which led her to a 9-for-10 night at the free throw line.Â
As for the remaining seniors,
Sydney Evans continued her strong season, registering 9 rebound, 4 points and 2 steals while battling foul trouble throughout. One of the highlights of the contest was the brief return of senior guard
Lindsay Moore, who has missed most of the season due to injury. Suiting up for senior night, Moore started the contest by draining a three-pointer and registering 2 steals in the first 3 minutes of play, and came in at the other end of the contest to drain two free throws for an extremely efficient night, finishing with 5 points and 2 steals in just 5 minutes of action.
Zariah Davis was a bright spot for the Wolves (0-21, 0-14 CCS), as the freshman finished with a game-high 22 points to go along with 10 rebounds, accounting for more than half of the Wolves' offensive output on the evening. Agnes Scott held the Wolves to 16% shooting in the second half to run away with the game, outscoring the Wolves, 18-2, in the final quarter.
The Scotties will return to the court on Saturday on the road, as they travel to Maryville (9-13, 8-5 CCS), as the Scots try to rebound from a Wednesday night loss to league-leading Asbury.
