DECATUR, Ga.—Energy was high from the start for Agnes Scott Volleyball as they outlasted Brewton-Parker in four sets on Tuesday night at Woodruff Gymnasium. The Scotties won their second match of the season and improve to 2-9.

A back-and-forth first set turned into the Scotties' favor approaching the finish. Agnes Scott was able to turn a tie game into a 20-14 advantage despite a stellar start from Brewton-Parker's Savannah Strawbridge (Wake Forest, N.C.). Brewton-Parker used a well-timed timeout to make a run back the other way, using an 8-2 stretch out of the break to tie the match at 22. The two teams traded points for the next six serves, but momentum swinging kills from Musumaulai Galoia (Hephzibah, Ga.) and Paige Heck (Indianapolis, Ind.) gave the Scotties a 27-25 victory.

The Barons were able to counter back in the second by stopping several Scottie runs on their way to a 25-21 result to even the overall match score.

Agnes Scott jumped out to a big lead in a pivotal third set and seemingly looked to control it to the end. With the Scotties leading 22-16, Brewton-Parker made another run, not unlike its spurt in the first set. The Barons won six straight points coming out of a timeout to suddenly make it a tied game at 22 all. Agnes Scott was able to win two of the next three points to grab a set-point and forcing Brewton-Parker into using its final timeout. Sophomore Tiara White (Sinton, Texas) ended the thoughts of prolonging the set with a laser beam of a serve in between two Barons to give Agnes Scott a 2-1 lead.

The fourth set was all Scotties with Heck serving them to a 6-0 lead at the jump. Agnes never trailed in the game and Brewton-Parker was never able to get closer than six in the late stages before the Scotties closed things out 25-14.

Strawbridge led all players with 19 kills and 20.5 total points. The first-year was one of three Barons in double-digit kills, which included Ansley Berry (11) and Tiffany Burkhead (10). Brewton-Parker outhit the Scotties across the board with a 55-34 advantage in kills and a hitting percentage north of .200. However, a service game that yielded 17 errors plagued the Barons from extending any runs in sets where the Scotties were able to pull away at the end.

Heck was the standout performer for the Scotties with 12 kills and service aces. Bella Kammerer (Mt. Sterling, Ky.) filled the box score in many ways with 26 assists, 12 digs, five aces and a season-high four kills.

As a team, Agnes had season highs in digs, aces and solo blocks.

The Scotties head up to Tennessee this weekend for a tri-match with Maryville and Johnson University on Saturday.
