MARYVILLE, Tenn. - Agnes Scott's volleyball team faced off in a tri-match with conference rivals Maryville and LaGrange this weekend, dropping a 3-1 decision to LaGrange before falling in three tight sets to Maryville.
Madison Stidum and
Feliz Pearson led the Scotties in both matches, each registering impressive hitting numbers on the afternoon.
In the first match of the day, LaGrange (5-15, 2-7 Collegiate Conference of the South) took the first two sets before a furious comeback in Set 3 helped the Scotties (2-12, 0-7 CCS) extend the match to a fourth set, before the Panthers were able to finally put the match to rest, winning 3-1 (25-20, 25-16, 24-26, 25-17). Stidum led all players with 15 kills in the match, while Pearson had an impressive 11 kills on 32 attempts, with only 2 errors, for a .281 hitting percentage. Setter
Adrionna Foster also had an impressive match, logging 16 assists, 10 digs, and also contributing 6 kills on offense. The Scotties' defense was one of the story lines, as five different players logged double-digit digs.
Alofamoni Galoia, who also added 13 assists, and Stidum each contributed 19 digs. Foster,
Me'Kyah Booker, and
Jahneya Reynolds each added 10.
In the second match, the Scots (13-7, 6-2 CCS) used a variety of attackers to keep the Scotties off balance, led by Reese Bailey's 12 kills. The Scots hit for a .270 kill percentage on the day, finishing off the Scotties, 3-0 (25-10, 25-22, 25-16). The Scotties had a chance in the second set, as they led 22-20, but Bailey took over, logging two kills and a crucial block at 22-20 which turned the tide in the favor of the Scots. For Agnes Scott, Pearson once again made the best of her opportunities, adding 5 kills on only 15 attempts, while committing no errors. She also added two service aces and two blocks.Â
The Scotties will look to rebound on Wednesday, as they face off with Wesleyan College at home.
