Box Score DECATUR, Ga.—Visiting Brevard College used a three-goal spurt over the final 25 minutes to best Agnes Scott women's soccer 4-0 in its home opener on Saturday. Four different Tornados totaled goals in their third conference victory of the season.
Sophomore keeper Ashley Kopczyk (Elgin, Ill.) was a hero of sorts for the Scotties despite surrendering four goals between the posts. Time and time again, Kopczyk was under fire from the Brevard offensive front but the 2021 starter made several saves in big moments to keep the Scotties within striking distance.
The Tornados opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when Jessica Tenjhay headed in an Abbie Petrosky corner from the right side. Tenjhay was in the right spot at the right moment for the easy score past a diving Kopczyk.
Brevard (3-1) would rack up 18 shots and six corners in the first half, but was unable to build off of its early lead any further.
The Scotties defense held strong for much of the second half as well until their lack of any substitutions began to come into play. Brevard's freshness in the midfield provided big dividends and they were able to find some cracks in the tiring Scotties over the final 25 minutes of action.
Brevard's ability to capitalize on free kicks from the corner played a big role in their scoring three goals over the final stretch. Two such goals came directly off of a corner.
Petrosky had a big day for the Tornados, tallying a nifty goal in the 65th minute while also assisting on two of the other three.
Megan Selecky (Clovis, Calif.) registered Agnes Scott's lone shot of the game on a daring boot just inside their offensive half that seemed to catch the Brevard keeper off guard.
Kopczyk finished the game with 15 stopped shots for the home side.
The Scotties are off until next Saturday when they host preseason favorite Maryville (Tenn.) at 2 p.m.
