Scotties Drop Heartbreaker to Salem, 65-61

Box Score

SALEM, N.C. - Agnes Scott renewed their rivalry with Salem College this evening on the campus of the Spirits, with the Spirits edging out the Scotties, 65-61, for their first USA South win of the young season. The Spirits (4-8, 1-1 USA South) received 14 points apiece from three different players in the win.

For the Scotties, (2-8, 1-3 USA South), first-year forward Garis Grant had a monstrous performance, bucketing over half of her team's points in a 33 point, 19 rebound effort, giving her her sixth double-double of the season. Classmate Anna Weimerskirch had her first career double-double, matching her season high of 13 points, coupled with 10 rebounds.

The contest was tight throughout, with neither team ever holding a lead of more than 9 points. The game saw the lead change hands eight different times, but, in the end, the Spirits were able to hold on down the stretch to pick up the important win.

The Scotties will return to action on Sunday, January 15, as they travel to Piedmont College (10-5, 3-1 USA South) for a 2:00 p.m. contest.
