In the first quarter, the Blazers scored the first 14 points of the contest, as Kyla Farmer and Kiersten Hudson came out of the gates on fire, accounting for 13 of the first 17 points for the home team. Agnes Scott finally got on the board with 4:53 to play on a free throw by
Cybele Forbes. The Scotties would find themselves trailing, 20-7, after one.
The second quarter saw the Scotties find a new gear of their own. After Belhaven built on their lead with two quick baskets in the paint, and leading 24-7, the Scotties started to find the bottom of the net.
Anissa Brailsford sank a free throw to get the run started, as Forbes and
Kaycie Hyde combined for the next 12 points in the contest, and the Scotties brought the game back to within 6. The two teams would be even for the rest of the quarter, and head into the locker room with the same margin, as Belhaven held a 36-30 edge.
For the second straight contest, however, the Scotties would see a close contest against a top team slip away in the third quarter, as Belhaven went on another run, this time outscoring the Scotties, 14-2, to begin the second half, and put the game safely out of reach as they raced to a 69-44 lead at the end of three periods.
The teams were fairly even in the fourth quarter, and the Blazers walked away with the 92-61 win. For the Scotties, Brailsford led the way with her fourth double-double of the season, finishing with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Hyde continued her strong freshman campaign with 10 points and4 assists, while her classmate, Forbes, finished with 10 points, 3 blocks and 3 steals. Forbes continues to lead the CCS in blocks per game with a season average of 2.2 per contest.
The Scotties will return home on Tuesday, February 3, as they host Piedmont (7-10, 4-4 CCS) at Woodruff Gymnasium at 5:00 p.m.
