Box Score DECATUR, Ga. – The Agnes Scott women's soccer team continued their rigorous non-conference schedule today with a match against Capital University, a team that made it to the final four of the NCAA Tournament a year ago. The Scotties (1-3-0) kept things close the entire match, holding the Crusaders (5-2-0) to a one goal lead up until two late tallies in the 86th and 87th minute, respectively, falling 3-0.
"Generally, I thought we played well," commented Scottie Head Coach Rosemary Davis. "We adjusted our game plan based on what we knew about Capital, and it was exciting to see us compete against such a strong program."
Capital, which outshot Agnes Scott 18-2 in the match, opened the scoring in the 16th minute of the match with a goal from Chloe Brown. For the next 70 minutes, both teams would remain scoreless, with Sydney Holstad making nine saves in goal for the Scotties.
"We saw some exceptional play from Courtney Moite, Helene Somda, and Sydney Holstad, among others," continued Coach Davis, "we are showing steady improvement and that's the most important thing at this point in the season."
Natalie Zepeda was the one Scottie player who managed a shot on goal in the match, but it was stopped by Crusader goalie Alexis Brand in the 77th minute.
The Scotties will have a quick turnaround, as they return to Gellerstedt Field on the campus of Agnes Scott College on Sunday to take on Birmingham Southern at 2:00 p.m. Admission is free to the public.
