Box Score 2 The Agnes Scott softball team swept both game of a doubleheader against new conference opponent Rust College this afternoon at Oakhurst Park. The Scotties won 25-0 and 21-1.
In game one, the Scotties got off to a quick lead with four runs in the first inning followed by five more in the second including an inside the park home-run by junior Ashley Monsurd, good for two RBI's. The Scotties added some insurance with another eight runs in the third and fourth inning. On the mound, Agnes Scott pitched a no-hitter. Junior Julia Blattner pitched the first three innings for the win, striking out six. Sophomore Casey Arnold pitched the last two innings striking out three.
In the second game, Agnes Scott came out swinging with six runs in the first inning and ten more in the second. They slowed down a bit with only three runs in the third inning. Rust finally rounded home plate in the top of the fourth on a single and a fielding error. The Scotties plated two more runs in the fourth to cap off the run-rule victory. On the mound, first-year pitcher Holly Jones got her first win of the season. In three innings, she allowed zero hits and struck out five. First-year Alliyah Williams closed out the final two innings allowing one hit, one run and striking out six.
For the day, eleven different players got at least one hit. Junior Julia Blattner went 3-3 and recorded four RBI's. Junior Kat Riale led with six RBI's and a .750 (3-4) batting average. Junior Allyssa Millikin batted in five RBI's and a .750 (3-4). First-year Miranda Gammon also hit a .750 (3-4) and batted in three RBI's. Junior Ashley Monsrud had four RBI's and batted .667 (4-6) including an inside the park home run in the second inning of game one.
The Scotties will play again on Tuesday March 4 at home as they face Georgia Gwinnett College in a double-header beginning at 5 p.m.
