ATLANTA, Ga. - Ten Scotties competed this weekend at the Emory University Thrills in the Hills Track and Field Invitational, marking the first meet for the newly-created program, headed by Interim Head Coach "Cocoa" Lauren Falohun. Agnes Scott competed with several other programs, ranging from NCAA Division I down to NCAA DIvision III, where the Scotties compete.
On Friday afternoon, three Scotties competed in the preliminary heats of the 200 meter race. First-Year
Gardlyne Deshommes was the top finisher for the Scotties, crossing the line in 57th place with a time of 29.72. First-Year
Kaia Middleton also competed in the same heat, crossing the line in 31.80, while junior
Lynley Wheeler rounded out the first wave of competitors for Agnes Scott, finishing in 37.47.
On Saturday, the rest of the Scotties joined their teammates and each established marks in their first competition of the season. Here are how the events went for the Scotties on Saturday:
100 Meters: In the 100 meter qualifying race, Deshommes again was the top finisher, coming in 26th with a time of 14.18 seconds.
Sadie McCallum was next across the finish, clocking in at 14.85 seconds, and Middleton crossed the line with a time of 15.29 seconds.
400 Meters: In the 400,
Lynley Wheeler was the lone representative for the Scotties, clocking in at 1:27.98.
800 Meters:Â In the two-lap race, First-Year
Lilybeth Sanchez was the top performer for Agnes Scott, running 3:14.88. Following closely behind was classmate
Paige Ford, who finished 9th of 11 in her heat with a time of 3:16.76.
1500 Meters: Jane Scanlan-Emigh, a standout on the cross country team this fall, participated in the 1500 meter race, finishing with a time of 5:51.56, good enough for 7th in her heat of 13 runners.Â
3000 Meters: Ford was the top finisher for the Scotties, running a time of 14:39.50, followed by Sanchez, who crossed the line in 15:11.23
Shot Put: In the field, 4 Scotties competed in the shot put.
Sadie McCallum had the longest throw for the Scotties, tossing the shot 6.47m (21' 2.75).
Kamryn Hill had a long throw of 5.88m, followed by
Alicela Pacheco-Caballero (5.26m) and
Madeleine Johnston (3.75m).Â
With this being the first meet for Agnes Scott, the participants are setting the standards for the different events and laying the groundwork for the future as the team prepares for their first Collegiate Conference of the South Championship at the end of the season. Preparations continue next week back at Emory once again, as the Scotties take part in the Emory Dooley Elite 2026 Meet on Saturday, April 4.
