DECATUR, Ga. - Agnes Scott's spring season hits the ground running after Spring Break, as this upcoming week is packed full of important contests for the Scotties. Tennis and softball both host two Collegiate Conference of the South events this week, and track and field compete in their historic first meet of the newly developed program under Coach Lauren "Cocoa" Falohun.
Monday, March 23 (Tennis vs LaGrange, 4:30 p.m., Byers Tennis Courts)
On Monday, the Scottie tennis team returns to action after a successful Spring Break. The Scotties finished the Spring Tennis Fest in Hilton Head, S.C. with a 1-2 record, logging their first win over Stevenson University, 4-3. Agnes Scott (2-4, 0-1 CCS) will play host to LaGrange (5-4, 0-1 CCS) in a critical contest which will help start putting into place the postseason picture in the CCS. Last year, the Scotties clinched their place in the postseason with their win over the Panthers, as they won, 6-1, on the road.
Tuesday, March 24 (Softball vs Piedmont (DH), 3:00 p.m./5:00 p.m., Oakhurst Park)
Softball looks to get themselves into the playoff discussion as well, as they face off with Piedmont (13-7, 2-0 CCS). The Scotties (1-7, 0-4 CCS) are coming off of a tough battle against nationally-ranked Belhaven, while Piedmont swept Asbury to start off their CCS campaign on a positive note.Â
Wednesday, March 25 (Tennis vs Covenant, 4:30 p.m., Byers Tennis Courts)
Another intriguing matchup awaits the Scotties, as they face off with Covenant (4-8, 0-0 CCS), who will be competing in their first CCS match of the season. Both teams are led at the top of the lineup by outstanding freshmen, as
Kennadi Reese has played at the top spot for the Scotties every match, while Maisie Tanchanpongs leads the Scots at the top.Â
Saturday, March 28 (Tennis vs Belhaven, Noon; Softball vs LaGrange, Noon and 2:00 p.m.; Track and Field at Emory Thrills in the Hills)
It will be a busy Saturday for the Scotties as all three spring teams are in action. Track and Field will make the short drive to Emory University to compete in the Thrills in the Hills Invitational in their debut event. This is the first season of competition for the Agnes Scott track program in the 2000s. Distance specialist
Jane Scanlan-Emigh, who was a second-team All-CCS Performer in Cross Country, leads the Scottie group competing.
Tennis will have a third important CCS Contest on the docket, as they host Belhaven (0-11), who fell to the Scotties last season, 4-3, as sophomore
Feliz Pearson scored a critical win for the Scotties at the #4 spot to give the Scotties the edge. Match time is scheduled for Noon and senior
Katherine Cox, a four-year starter for the Scotties, will be celebrated for her contributions.
Softball will wrap up the busy Saturday as they host LaGrange (7-17, 2-2 CCS). LaGrange is coming off of consecutive splits against Covenant and Maryville, respectively. The Scotties are led offensively by sophomore infielder,
Ellie Settle, who is batting an impressive .444 through the first 8 games of the season. Fellow sophomore
Taylor Selby is not far behind with a .400 batting average, and rounding up the batting average leaders is another sophomore,
Lia Faulks, who is batting an impressive .385 after finishing her freshman campaign with a .080 batting average.
The softball series on Saturday will also serve as the Lauren Giddings Memorial Game. Giddings was an outstanding member of the Agnes Scott softball team who had her life cut short in 2011 while studying law at Mercer University. The Scotties will have various items in pink on Saturday, Lauren's favorite color.
Admission to all home events at Agnes Scott are free to the public.Â
