DECATUR, Ga. - The No. 6-seeded Agnes Scott Scotties will make their second consecutive appearance in the Collegiate Conference of the South's Championship Softball Tournament this week. The Collegiate Conference of the South features two of the Top 10 teams in NCAA Division III, with Belhaven (34-4, 15-1 CCS) coming in at No. 6 and Huntingdon (32-4, 15-1 CCS) coming in at No. 9. Huntingdon will play host for the tournament this week in Montgomery, Ala.
The Scotties will be looking to upset the third-seeded Maryville Scots (29-11, 12-4 CCS), whose only conference losses this season have come to Belhaven and Huntingdon. The Scotties (13-24, 6-10 CCS) are coming off of a split with Covenant College last weekend, which helped them wrap up the final spot in the tournament and left Covenant on the outside looking in. Last season, when the CCS Tournament featured 8 teams, the Scotties made the tournament as the No. 7 seed, upsetting LaGrange in the consolation bracket before eventually falling to No. 2 Huntingdon, 11-2.
The Scotties' 13 wins is tied with last season for the most wins in a season since the 2014 Great South Athletic Conference championship squad in 2014, who finished the season at 23-22 and qualified for the NCAA Division III Tournament. The newly-created Collegiate Conference of the South is in the final year of not receiving an automatic bid to NCAA Division III Championships. The conference achieves automatic-qualifier status for NCAA Championships during the 2024-2025 season. However, teams are still eligible for "at-large" bids to the national tournament.
The tournament will kick-off on Wednesday, May 1. The Scotties take the field against the Scots at 4PM EST.
