Box Score DECATUR, Ga. – Sophomore Erika McLeod (Snellville, Georgia) finished the contest with a double-double performance scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds for Agnes Scott College basketball team, but the Scotties fell 56-46 to Covenant College on Wednesday evening. Despite the outcome the Scotties played a great game.
Taylor Brooks was the Scotties second leading scorer with adding 10 points. Lindsay Moore and Kayla Moore contributed nine points each respectively for Agnes Scott. YaMea Elliot-Allen finsihed the contest with six ponts.
Both teams struggled to score in the opening minutes of the game. The Scotties suffered from a first quarter shooting percentage of only 10. Covenant was only a little better finishing the first quarter with a percentage of 25.
In the first quarter, the Scots and Scotties had a slow start with both team trying to score in the opening minutes. Both teams went back and forth trading baskets with Covenant College taking a 15-6 lead to end the quarter.
Both teams struggled in the opening minutes of the second quarter before the Scots stretched their lead to nine points after a jump shot with 8 minutes to play. The Scottie baskets came alive in the second quarter with Agnes Scott outscoring the Scots 14-11 to cut the deficit to six. The Scots took a 26-20 at halftime.
Agnes Scott had a strong performance in the third quarter outscoring the Scots again 16-10. The Scotties offense and defensive pressure played off with tying the game 36 all. Covenant College clawed back to add 18 points to take the 18-10 victory.
In the contest, Agnes Scott held the advantage from the field shooting 26.2% compared to 25.7% for the Scots. The Bullets converted 17 of 20 free throws from the charity strip and created 16 points from turnovers on the day.
The Scotties will look to bounce back on Saturday as they travel to Macon, Georgia for a matchup against Wesleyan College. Tip-off is set for 1pm.
