Scots' Depth Tests Scotties Despite Improved Effort

Box Score

DECATUR, Ga.—Career-best efforts from several Scotties was not enough to overcome the depth of visiting Covenant College in USA South women's basketball action at Woodruff Gymnasium on Saturday. Covenant completed the home-and-home sweep of the Scotties 98-36 to keep its postseason aspirations alive, while Agnes Scott sees its mark dip to 0-11 in 2021.

Despite playing its fifth game in eight days, Agnes Scott saw one of its best overall performances of the 2021 season. The Scots set several school records versus the Scotties on Thursday in Lookout Mountain, but Agnes' coaching adjustments led to a more even game throughout.

Pounding the ball inside and hitting the glass with forwards Erika McLeod (Snellville, Ga.) and Musumaulai Galoia (Hephzibah, Ga.) gave the Scots a different look, and it led to career days for the pair.

Covenant took control of the game early and never relented on their way to the big win. Much of it was in part to Karis McIntosh, who upped her career-high set Thursday with a new mark of 24 points. McIntosh also distributed the ball well with seven assists in 22 minutes of work. Covenant sophomore Ruthie Moore was the assists leader in the game with 10 in just 21 logged minutes.

With the Scots focusing on double and triple-teaming ballhandler Shay Sweat (Lawrenceville, Ga.) in the half-court, Agnes Scott needed to find scoring elsewhere. McLeod stepped up in a big way, setting a new career-best mark with 12. Galoia was also a nuisance on the offensive glass for the Scotties, pulling down nine rebounds on both ends of the floor. Galoia's 18 rebounds were the best single-game number for any player not named Garis Grant '20 in the last seven years.

The lone senior also finished just shy of a double-double with nine points.

Joining in on the scoring parade was junior Chloe Perry (Atlanta, Ga.), who totaled a career-high nine points off the bench. The reserve guard was efficient—three of six from the floor—and had four near assists on passes that put her teammates in prime position to score under the basket.

Agnes Scott was much better on the glass on Saturday with Covenant holding a slim 49-42 margin.

The Scotties return to action next Friday when they head to Demorest to take on Piedmont College for the first of two conference games.
