Box Score DECATUR, Ga. - The Agnes Scott College basketball team opened up USA South conference play yielding a 96-59 decision to Brevard College on Saturday afternoon. The Scotties hung in there with the Tornadoes in the first quarter, going into the second quarter with a 25-9 advantage, and trailing only 50-25 at the half.
The Scotties and Tornadoes played a back-and-forth first quarter, with Brevard opening the contest taking a lead over the opening minutes of the contest. Lindsey Moore scored the opening basket for the Scotties cutting the lead 5-3. A three pointer by Brevard advanced its lead 19-7 with 2:38 left in the first quarter. Ivey Portis closed out the scoring for Agnes Scott with adding two from the free throw line making the score 25-9 after the first quarter.
Agnes Scott and Brevard exchanged buckets for the first two minutes of the second quarter, but the Tornadoes build their lead as ASC went into the half trailing 50-25. Brevard College continued to build their lead over the remainder of the contest as the Scotties eventually fell 96-59.
Kayla Jones led the Scotties in scoring in their first conference game of the season, scoring 14 points on 5 of 12 shooting from the field. Taylor Brooks added 10 points in the loss, while Brevard had seven different players scoring five points. As a team, Agnes Scott shot 33.9% from the field, 40.0% from beyond the arc, and 50.0% from the free throw line.
Agnes Scott will return to the court on Tuesday, November 23rd as they travel for a conference match-up against Covenant. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
