Box Score DECATUR, Ga.—LaGrange's strong middle quarters pushed the Panthers to a 67-36 victory over Agnes Scott College at Woodruff Gymnasium on Tuesday evening. The Scotties received a monster effort from senior Garis Grant (Charleston, S.C.), who scored half of the team's points in regulation but could not find any rhythm otherwise in a losing effort. Grant broke the all-time Agnes Scott rebounding record in the first quarter of the game.
One was all that was needed.
Grant tied Genefine Sapateh's school record with a rebound in the fourth quarter of Saturday's loss to Maryville and only needed a minute to break it on Tuesday. The senior forward's record-setting carom was just the start of a season-best effort as Grant recorded a triple-double for the first time in her career with 18 points, 13 rebounds and 10 blocks.
The previous single-game high for blocks in program history was nine, set by Grant against North Park in December of 2018.
Agnes Scott looked strong out of the gate, holding a 14-9 lead with under a minute to play in the first quarter when LaGrange amped up the pressure. The Panthers (13-8, 7-6 USA South) scored two buckets off turnovers in the press and it spurred on a dominant second-quarter effort in which the Panthers outscored the Scotties 21-9 and never let the Scotties back within single-digits the rest of the way.
Mykelli Taylor led the Panthers with 14 points in 15 minutes of action, much of it coming from behind the arch. Daijah Cousins had a strong game off the bench for the Panthers with 10 points, six steals and four assists.
The Scotties (0-13 USA South) finish off their home schedule on Friday night when they host Brevard College at 6 p.m. Agnes Scott will be hosting a #BlockOutCancer Night in honor of current Greensboro College women's basketball head coach Randy Tuggle, who is battling pancreatic cancer.
