Box Score BREVARD, N.C.—A strong fourth-quarter effort pushed Brevard College to a 66-44 victory over Agnes Scott in a USA South Conference women's basketball contest on Wednesday evening. The Scotties crept to within striking distance with a stellar third period, but the Tornados pulled away late thanks to its outside shooting.
Emma Olson (Austin, Texas) led the Scotties with 12 points on an efficient 5-of-11 shooting night, while Annie Weimerskirch (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) and Kamiyla Lane (Atlanta, Ga.) each totaled nine points.
Both teams got off a slow start on the offensive end as Brevard clung to a 5-4 lead nearing the final minutes of the opening quarter. Weimerskirch nailed an in-rhythm triple on a nice swing pass to put the Scotties up by two, but Brevard rallied back with a 7-0 run to claim the lead for good.
Agnes Scott stayed within striking distance of the Tornados in the second quarter until the outside shooting started to warm up for the home side. Brevard put together its strongest quarter of the evening, scoring 25 of its 66 points in the period while outscoring the Scotties by 15.
The Scotties battled back coming out of halftime, putting together one of its best quarters to date during the 2019-20 season. An efficient attack allowed the visitors to put 20 points on the board while holding Brevard to only 10.
Brevard led 47-39 entering the final quarter of play and never let the Scotties get any closer after the third-quarter burst. Shakirah Thompson put a stamp on a 21-point performance, all seven made shots coming from behind the arc, and Brevard outscored Agnes Scott 19-5 the rest of the way.
Destiny Williams and Deja Riddick combined for 28 points to aid Brevard's scoring effort.
Lane gathered a career-high 14 rebounds, while Garis Grant (Charleston, S.C.) took another step closer to becoming the program's all-time leading rebounder with 13 boards.
Agnes Scott (0-13, 0-4 USA South) stays on its three-game road trip with a quick scoot down to LaGrange on Saturday at 2 p.m.
