Season-Best Efforts Not Enough in Loss to Rhodes

Box Score

MEMPHIS, Tenn.—Rhodes College took an 84-48 result from Agnes Scott in the first game back for both teams following the holiday on Sunday afternoon. The Scotties played even with the Lynx in the first and third quarters, but Rhodes' season-best effort from behind the arch led to slanted scores in the even quarters to send the home team to a victory.

Agnes Scott falls to 0-11 on the season, while Rhodes improves to 5-5.

The Scotties played the SAA contending Lynx tough in the opening quarter, trailing only 17-15 after 10 minutes thanks to an efficient effort from their starting five. Garis Grant (Charleston, S.C.) and Emma Olson (Austin, Texas) combined for 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the floor in the opening period.

Rhodes flipped the game in a big way in the second quarter with an incredible shooting performance from deep. The Lynx outscored the Scotties 26-7 in the period, mainly due to making eight of their 14 attempts from three. Every time the Scotties would attempt to crawl back into manageable territory, Rhodes would string together two to three minutes of effortless scoring to grow its lead back to double-digits.

The Scotties played well again coming out of the break as Grant really got going in all facets in the second half. The senior paced the Scottie offense as she stayed out of foul trouble and racked up rebounds on both ends of the floor.

However, Rhodes continued to shoot lights out from three-point land in the second half while Agnes' offense thrived inside the arch in the half court. The Lynx used a 16-0 run late in the game to pad the lead with three-pointers dictating the result once again.

Grant had a season-best performance with 18 points and 11 rebounds, which moved the forward into second all-time on the program rebounding list for a career. Shay Sweat (Lawrenceville, Ga.) rebounded after a scoreless stretch with nine points, while Olson chipped in eight points and nine rebounds. Addison Harrison (Ellenwood, Ga.) dished out a career-high five assists in just her second game running the point as a first-year.

Agnes Scott is back in action on the other side of the New Year when they host Bates College (Maine) on January 4.
