Box Score DECATUR, Ga.—Agnes Scott dropped the second of a weekend doubleheader to Huntingdon, 58-45, on Sunday afternoon at the Woodruff Gymnasium. The Scotties cut a double-digit halftime deficit to two possessions at the start of the second half, but could not overcome the consistent inside-outside offense for the Hawks in the USA South loss.
All-conference standout Juliette Harp (Chattanooga, Tenn.) was the best player on the floor in the first quarter as she started the game 5-for-6 with 10 points over the first 10 minutes. On the other side, Agnes Scott could not get a shot to fall despite many good looks in half-court sets and trailed 13-5 after one.
The Scotties were able to get more going in the second quarter as Garis Grant (Charleston, S.C.) and Annie Weimerskirch (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) were both able to knock down key momentum shots. With just over two to go in the half, Agnes Scott had cut the lead down to seven at 24-17. However, the Hawks finished on a 4-0 run to take an 11-point halftime lead.
The Scotties came out of the locker room with four straight points to get back within seven, but Huntingdon's full-court press doomed the home team in the third quarter. The Hawks switched into the press and turned the Scotties over on multiple possession, turning a single-digit lead into a 45-22 advantage in no time at all.
Agnes outscored the Hawks in the fourth quarter, but could not fully overcome the big run in the third quarter.
Harp finished with her nation-leading 17th double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. She also contributed two blocks and two steals. Rookie guard Indya Lawrence (Florence, Ala.) had 14 off the bench to go with four steals.
Grant led the Scotties with 15 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks. Weimerskirch had 11 with a near-perfect day from the floor on 4-of-5 shooting.
The Scotties held an 8-7 lead in blocks as the two teams were the best in the conference coming into the day.
Agnes Scott (2-16) heads to Lookout Mountain, Georgia on Friday to take on Covenant at 7:30 p.m.
