Scotties Split with Wolves

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

DECATUR, Ga. - The Agnes Scott College softball team fought two hard contests against a tenacious Wesleyan Wolves squad today, leading to a split for the second time in as many series with the Wolves (12-16, 2-2 Great South Athletic Conference).  The Wolves took Game 1 by a score of 4-2, before the Scotties (6-16, 2-2 GSAC) rebounded in Game 2, winning 4-3 in 8 innings.

In Game 1, the Scotties struck first as Aimee Jennings lifted a pitch over the left field fence in the bottom of the 1st inning, giving the Scotties a 1-0 lead early on.  Jema Bravo would quickly even the score, leading off the 2nd inning with a solo homer of her own for the Wolves.  The Scotties offense would struggle throughout the game against Wolves' ace Mellissa Webb, as the team would collect only two more hits in the game.  The Wolves plated three runs in the top of the fifth off of starter Casey Arnold to race out to a 4-1 lead.  The Scotties would score one run in the bottom of the 5th inning, but that would be the end of the scoring for the home team.

In Game 2, the Scotties would chase Wesleyan's starting pitcher, Nicole Wilson, out of the game in the first inning, exploding for three runs before Mellissa Webb would return and shut down the Scottie offense for the next six innings.  Scottie starter Holly Jones would pitch five scoreless innings of her own to hold off the Wolves, until Bravo would homer for the second time on the day, bringing home two runs and putting the Wolves back within one at 3-2 in the top of the 6th.   They would tack on another run in the top of the 7th, taking the game into extra innings.  Tiffany Cain laced a one-out blast down left field line in the bottom of the 8th to give the Scotties the win, bringing home Jennings for the winning run.

The Scotties will return to non-conference action on the road on Wednesday, April 1, as they head to Birmingham Southern for a double header.
