Scotties Split Doubleheader with Point University

Decatur, GA--The Agnes Scott softball team split a doubleheader against Point University this afternoon at home.  The visiting Skyhawks took game one, 9-0 in five innings and the Scotties swept game two, 4-0 in seven innings.  Agnes Scott's record now stands at an even 16-16 while the Skyhawks stand at 13-23. Between games, in honor of Division III week, the Agnes Scott Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) recognized fall and winter scholar-athletes that have achieved a 3.25 GPA or higher.

In game one, Point opened up with two runs in the top of the first followed by a seven run streak in the second inning. No runs from either team in the next three innings put the run rule into effect, ending the game in the fifth inning with Point ahead 9-0. The Skyhawks held the Scotties to just two hits.  Junior Tiffany Cain hit a single down the left field line in the bottom of the third and junior Ashley Monsrud singled to left field in the bottom of the fourth.  On the mound, first-year pitcher Alliyah Williams got the loss. In the first 1.1 innings, she allowed seven hits, nine runs and three walks.  Sophomore Casey Arnold pitched 3.2 innings allowing four hits and striking out one.

In game two, Agnes Scott got on board early with three runs in the first inning with one more in the bottom of the fourth while holding the Skyhawks to zero runs and seven hits. Junior Aimee McKibbin led off the hitting with a single. Junior Ashley Monsrud got on base with a hit by pitch and junior Alyssa Millikin reached on a error by third base allowing McKibbin to score, unearned.  With two runners on base, first-year Alliyah Williams hit a triple bringing in two RBIs.  Millikin scored the final run of the game in the bottom of the fourth with the RBI from junior Tiffany Cain. On the mound, first-year Holly Jones got her fourth win of the season. In five innings, she allowed five hits, one walk and struck out one.  Junior Julia Blattner pitched two innings allowing two hits.

Over the two games, Cain hit 2-for-5 (.400) and had one RBI. Williams hit 1-for-3 (.333) including one triple and two RBIs. She also had a 1.00 slugging percentage.  On the field, the Scotties had only one error. Monsrud had a great game at first base with 11 putouts and zero errors. 

The Scotties will return to action tomorrow as they travel to Macon to face Wesleyan College. The next home game will be Saturday at 1 p.m. as they take on Salem in a conference doubleheader. Between games, Agnes Scott will recognize third-year player Julia Blattner who will be graduating this year, one year early.
