Box Score 2 The Agnes Scott softball team split a doubleheader against conference rival Salem College this afternoon at home. The Scotties fell 8-3 in game one before dominating 10-2 in game two.
Kat Riale got the Scotties on the scoreboard with a run in the bottom of the third with an RBI from junior Aimee McKibbin. Agnes Scott scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth. First-year Holly Jones walked, McKibbin hit a single up the middle and first-year Kelsey Daigneau brought the two runners home with a double. With Salem ahead 8-3, neither team scored in the final two innings.
On the mound, Julia Blattner pitched 1.2 innings allowing six hits and five runs. Alliyah Williams pitched 2.2 innings allowing two hits, three runs, six walks and striking out three and sophomore Casey Arnold closed out the final 2.2 innings allowing one hit and striking out four.
In the second game, the teams were tied 2-2 at the bottom of the fourth with runs from junior Alyssa Millikin and Williams and a RBI for Blattner. The Scotties found their rhythm and made some smart plays in the fifth inning, scoring eight runs and putting the run-rule into effect. Junior Kat Riale led off with a single to left field. McKibbin made it to first on a bunt followed by a bunt from Millikin. With bases loaded, Williams hit a single to bring home Riale and McKibbin. Williams stole second base and Blattner walked and Monsrud walked as Millikin rounded home plate. With bases loaded again, junior Tiffany Cain singled to left center bringing in two runners. First-year Kelsey Daigneau made it to first on a fielders choice and advanced on an error by third base. Monsrud scored on the play. First-year Miranda Gammon went in to pinch hit and singled to right field for one RBI. Back at the top of the batting order, Riale singled up the middle for the game winning RBI.
On the mound, first-year Holly Jones pitched 5 innings, allowing two hits, two runs, one walk and striking out two.
Over the two games, McKibbin batted .571 (4-7) with two runs and two RBIs. Williams hit .500 (3-6) with two runs and two RbIs.
Between games, the Scotties recognized third-year player Julia Blattner who will be graduating early. Prior to today's games, Julia had a pitching win-loss record of 15-7 in 48 innings and an ERA of 3.62. At the plate, Julia has a career batting average of .328 with 21 hits, including six doubles and 14 RBIs. In addition to her athletic accomplishments, Julia is involved in various other activities. During the summers, she travels to Peru as a volunteer providing free medical care, she volunteers at Dry Tears ministry, Decatur Cooperative Ministry, and Project AK-47. She is interning for the David Perdue Senate campaign and will be interning in Pampachiri, Peru this summer.
The Scotties also gave a big thank-you to assistant coaches Ariana Mullin and Morgan Smith who will both be leaving after this season. Mullin has been with the Scotties for three years and is finishing up a Ph. D in Neuroscience from Emory University. Smith has been with the Scotties for two years and will graduate with a master's in Sports Administration from Ga State University in May; she plans to pursue a coaching career.
Agnes Scott softball will return to action on Wednesday April 16 as they travel to LaGrange for a non-conference doubleheader starting at 5 p.m.
The Scotties recognized Julia Blattner on Saturday for three outstanding years at Agnes Scott.
