Softball Concludes Day One at Emory Eagles Softball Bash

The Agnes Scott softball team played two games today at the Eagle Softball Bash hosted by Emory University today. The Scotties defeated Spalding University at 10 a.m. followed by a loss to host Emory at noon.

The Scotties got on the board right away with a double by junior Ashley Monsrud followed by one run in the top of the first. The Scotties added five more hits and five more runs in the top of the second highlighted by a triple from junior Kat Riale good for two RBIs.

In the top of the fourth, another double by Monsrud set the Scotties up for two more runs.  First-year Tamron Hampton entered as a pinch runner and stole second, her first steal of the season. A single from first-year Kelsey Daigneau brought  Hampton and Monsrud home and was good for two RBIs.

Spalding scored all four of their runs in the bottom of the fourth with a triple from Mouser for one RBI, followed by a single and another RBI.  A double from McAfee pulled in two more runs for the Eagles.

The Scotties stood firm and picked up three more runs in the top of the fifth. First-year Alliyah Williams doubled and brought in one runner, junior Tiffany Cain singled for one RBI and Daigneau singled for another RBI.

The sixth and seventh innings ended with no hits for either team for a final score of 11-4. Junior pitcher Julia Blattner got the win, her second this season. She picthed 3.2 innings allowing six hits, four runs, one walk and striking out one.  Sophomore Casey Arnold pitched 3.1 innings and allowed one hit and two walks while striking out four.

The Scotties followed their win with a tough game against host Emory University.  The Scotties were unable to snap Emory's 16 game undefeated winning streak and fell 8-0. 

Emory held Agnes Scott to just three hits which came from Riale, Williams and junior Aimee McKibbin.

Williams pitched 3.1 innings allowing seven hits, eight runs, three walks and striking out three evening out her record to 2-2.  First-year Holly Jones pitched the final at bats of the fourth inning.

The Scotties return to action tomorrow at Emory facing Spalding at noon and Emory at 2 p.m. Live stats will be available for the 2 p.m. game against Emory, http://www.emoryathletics.com/information/LiveStats.
