Cold Shooting Dooms Scotties, 82-44

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Agnes Scott College basketball team raced out to an early lead against Oglethorpe University this evening before their shooting went cold and they fell, 82-44, to the Stormy Petrels (2-1).  

In the early going, the Scotties (1-2) kept things close with the local rival, leading early on at 14-13, before a series of missed shots allowed Oglethorpe to pull ahead for good and never look back.  For the Scotties, Shavonne Orr saw her first action of the season and made it count, leading all scorers with 13 points.  First-year students Laniqua Collins and Kisha Simpson made the biggest impact on the glass for the Scotties, each hauling in 9 rebounds, and each contributing 6 points in the losing effort.  Simpson is averaging over 12 rebounds per game.

Oglethorpe would dominate the glass on the evening, outrebounding Agnes Scott, 55-37.  Their scoring attack was balanced, with four different players scoring in double digits.  They also outshots the Scotties, 43% to 25%.

The Scotties will look to regroup on Saturday, November 22, as they return home to face off with anouther Southern Athletic Association Conference member as they welcome Birmingham Southern to the Woodruff Athletic Center for a 2:00 p.m. tipoff.  Admission is free to the public.
