Agnes Scott Splits in Opening Day of Tourney

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Kicking off their time in the 2013 Great South Athletic Conference softball tournament, the Agnes Scott Scotties split day one's games starting with a win against Wesleyan and a 7th comeback that fell just short.

In their first game of the day, the Scotties faced a familiar foe in the Pioneers. Getting the offense underway early, Agnes Scott jumped to a quick six run lead in the first on strong base running and costly errors by Wesleyan. They were able to score all six runs on just six hits in the bottom of the first.

Adding four more in the third and with a comfortable lead, the Scotties tacked on seven more during the bottom of the 4th to seal their fate and earn a game against Finlandia in the afternoon. The final score was Agnes Scott 17- Wesleyan 4.

Seeing Finlandia for the first time all season, the Lions used that to their advantage and jumped to a quick 2-0 lead in the first.

Putting up one more run in the fifth, Finlandia was leading 3-0 at the beginning of seven. With two outs, Melanie Ennis was beaned by a pitch to give her first base. Avi Greene singled to right center and Ennis was able to score on a bobble by the centerfielder. An error by the leftfielder brought Greene home, putting the Scotties within one.

Despite the comeback effort, Agnes Scott fell to Finlandia, 3-2. They will now play Saturday morning against Pine Manor. This will be the first meeting between the two teams this season. First pitch is set for 10 a.m.
