Lauren Giddings Softball Classic Day 1

The second annual Lauren Giddings Softball Classic started today with four games. Prior to the first game Kristin Miller, a friend of Lauren's, gave a loving and moving speech in remembrance of Lauren followed by the ceremonial first pitch from Lauren's mom, Karen.

In game one, the Pioneers of Wesleyan College took on the Scotties of Agnes Scott College. Agnes Scott won in five innings, 19-0.  Lead-off batter Melanie Ennis scored three runs and one hit. First-year Pitcher Casey Arnold scored three runs, two hits and two RBI's. Sophomore Tiffany Cain had four hits, two runs and five RBI's. Sophomore Aimee McKibbin scored three runs, three hits and five RBI's and sophomore Allyssa Millikin scored two runs, three hits and three RBI's.

On the mound, Casey Arnold got the win pitching five innings she allowed three hits, three walks and struck out four. 

In game two, the Lions of Penn State-Behrend took on the Tigers of Brenau University. Brenau won 7-0. Andrea Bentley (#11) of Brenau hit a home run in the second inning bringing in three runs. In the sixth inning Lauren Parten (#15) of Brenau hit the second home run of the day, good for two runs.

Julia Heinl pitched six innings for Penn State-Behrend allowing nine hits, seven runs and striking out two.  Anna Maness of Brenau got the win pitching two innings, she allowed two hits, one walk and struck out two.  Kathrine Cole pitched five innings for Brenau allowing three hits and striking out five.

In game three, Brenau defeated Agnes Scott 15-4 in five innings.  Melanie Ennis, Shivani Ghodadra, Avi Greene and Alyssa Millikin each scored one run and one hit. Greene hit a triple in the fourth inning. Tiffany Shandera and Liz Schneider of Brenau hit home runs in the third inning bringing in a total of five runs.

Tiffany Cain pitched five innings for the Scotties allowing 15 hits, 15 runs, four walks and striking out three.  Anna Maness pitched five innings for Brenau allowing five hits, four runs, two walks and striking out seven.

Starting an hour late, game four ended with Penn State-Behrend defeating Wesleyan College 22-0. Lead-off batter Mirrissa Parker scored three runs, two hits and two RBI's for Penn State-Behrend.  Catcher Kayla Frawley had two runs and three RBI's. 

On the mound, Kelsey Fuller got the win for Penn State-Behrend. In four innings she allowed only one hit, three walks and struck out nine.

Tomorrow will begin with Penn State-Behrend and Agnes Scott at 10 a.m. followed by Brenau University and Wesleyan College.  There will be a consolation game at 2:30 p.m. followed by the championship game. All games are played at Oakhurst Park on Feld Avenue in Decatur. Admission is free.
