Box Score 2 Brenau University won the first Lauren Giddings Classic Tournament today at Oakhurst Park in Decatur. Brenau defeated Agnes Scott, 10-0, and Sewanee, 11-0, on Saturday and defeated Agnes Scott, 7-0 on Sunday to become the tournament champions.
Runner-up Agnes Scott narrowly defeated Sewanee, 6-5, in game two this afternoon to make it to the championship game where they lost to Brenau.
The MVP Player for the tournament was Brenau's Sally Duggan. Playing in all three of Brenau's games, Duggan had five hits in 11 at bats for an on base percentage of .455 and a slugging percentage of .636.
The MVP pitcher, also from Breanu, was Anna Maness. Maness pitched the championship game for Brenau and recorded a tournament high of 12 strike-outs in six innings. Her ERA for the tournament was 0.0 and she allowed zero hits, zero runs and zero walks. Brenau's other pitchers, Jenny Shepherd and Ellen Black also had impressive performances, each recorded a win and a shutout.
Three Scotties were named to the all-tournament team: Avi Greene, Melanie Ennis and Ashley Berger. ASC junior Avi Greene played in all four games for the Scotties. She had six hits in 12 at bats, three runs and four RBIs and she was the only player to hit two triples during the tournament. Also playing in all four games, center fielder Melanie Ennis was integral to the Scotties' strength on the field. She had one RBI and a fielding percentage of .750. Pitcher Ashley Berger, also a junior, pitched 13 innings. She had an ERA of 5.38 and recorded six strike-outs. Berger also hit a home run.
