The Agnes Scott softball team split a doubleheader against Maryville College today at home.  The Scotties lost the first game 13-3 and came back to win the second game 2-1.

After four innings, game one was tied 3-2 when Maryville scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth, which included a grand slam by Maryville's Brittany Henry, to gain a seven point lead.  The Scotties were able to stay in the game with one more run in the sixth inning. Maryville scored four more runs in the seventh, including a home run by Chastity Smith, ending the game 13-3.

Centerfielder Melanie Ennis had three hits and two runs for the Scotties and Yaritza Encarnacion earned one run.

Ashley Berger pitched five innings for the Scotties allowing four hits, three runs, three walks and getting one strike-out. First-year Julia Blattner pithced two innings allowing nine hits, ten runs and five walks.

Game two started with two scoreless innings.  Maryville scored one run in the third inning with two doubles. Agnes Scott scored one run in the fourth inning tying the game.  The Scotties scored again in the fifth inning with a single from first-year Ashley Monsrud and then a triple from junior Avi Greene. The remaining innings were scoreless giving the Scotties the win.

Senior Chelsea Kremer pitched seven innings for the Scotties allowing seven hits, one run and one walk while striking out two.

The Scotties will play again tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. against Salem College.
