Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Short-Handed Scotties Stun Oglethorpe, 4-3

Reese, Hendley and Cox all win twice for Agnes Scott

ATLANTA, Ga. - Agnes Scott was able to pick up a win over crosstown rival, Oglethorpe University, as the Scotties (1-2) took down the Stormy Petrels (0-3) by a final score of 4-3.

The Scotties had their backs against the wall from the start, as injuries caused them to field a team that was one player short, forfeiting the #3 doubles and #6 singles matches. Fortunately for the Scotties, they played inspired doubles to get the match started, and the top of the lineup led the team to the win from there. It is the first victory over Oglethorpe since the 2014-2015 season, the season the Scotties last reached the NCAA Tournament.

In the critical doubles, Agnes Scott had to win both contested matches to pick up the important point, and the team came through with flying colors. At the top spot, the freshman/senior duo of Kennadi Reese and Katherine Cox took down the Oglethorpe team of Taylor Glover and Luisa Gorgoll, 6-4. At second doubles, sophomores Feliz Pearson and Taylor Hendley completed the doubles sweep, downing Grace Elsevier and Apsana Rai, 6-3, to put the Scotties ahead, 1-0, entering singles play.

In singles, Oglethorpe immediately got even by winning #6 singles by default, evening the match at 1-1. Reese was dominant at the top spot for the Scotties, dropping only one game in her 6-0, 6-1 win over Glover. Oglethorpe evened things once again as Nicole Sanchez overcame a tight first set against ASC's Sophia Dumitru-Rose, winning 7-6(1), 6-0. That evened the match at 2-2 with three matches left on court. Taylor Hendley got the Scotties back on top with a 6-2, 7-6(2) win over Geianah Thomas of Oglethorpe at the #2 spot, and Cox produced her best tennis of the young season for a 7-5, 6-4 win at the #3 spot to put the match out of reach. Oglethorpe's Apsana Rai was able to give the Stormy Petrels the final point of the match, downing Pearson, 6-4, 6-2, in the longest match of the day.

The Scotties will now take a break as the college embarks on Summit Week. The team will return to action on their Spring Break trip, which begins in Hilton Head, S.C. with a match against Stevenson University on March 17.
