Leilah Lewinson, the current President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) presented the
SAAC Person of the Year Award to Mr. Shawn Williams of Facility Services.
"This year's recipient exemplifies dedication, humility, and quiet excellence," Lewinson stated. He constantly puts in long hours, often working behind the scenes to maintain and care for the spaces we use every day. If you're around early in the morning, you've probably seen him. And when events run late into the evening, he's still there—not just doing his job, but taking time to engage in meaningful conversations with others."
Dr.
Kanika Richardson, Athletic Director at Agnes Scott, then presented several awards to Agnes Scott student-athletes.
The
Rookie of the Year went to
Anissa Brailsford of the basketball team. This season, Brailsford was named to the Collegiate Conference of the South 2nd Team, leaidng the team in rebounding, and finishing second in scoring for the Scotties. She was also in the Top Ten in the conference in both categories. During the season, she earned back-to-back Rookie of the Week honors in the CCS.Â
The
Agnes Scott Athletics Ambassador Award, which is given annually to a sophomore or junior whose contributions extend beyond their respective team, went to
Ashlee Parkey of the soccer team. Parkey balaned a 4.0 GPA with athletic competition and campus leadership. She has worked behind the scenes at Woodruff Gymnasium, as well as working with Admissions on panels for prospective future Scotties. Richardson praised Parkey, stating "this student-athlete leads not just by what she says, but by the consistency of how she shows up - for others, for herself and for the college."
The
Lauren Giddings '08 Character Award, named in honor of former Scottie softball player who lost her life in 2011, is presented to a senior student-athlete who best exemplifies character and integrity. This year's recipient was
Trinavy Le, a member of both the soccer and tennis teams this season. Richardson gave this glowing endorsement of Le's contributions to the Scottie family: "She's the kind of teammate who shows up—for her team, for other Scottie teams, and for the department as a whole. Whether she's on the court or behind the scenes working game operations, she brings the same level of care and commitment. And in her senior year, she took on the challenge of a second sport, embracing it fully and showing just how willing she is to go all in when her team needs her."
The final student-athlete award of the evening was the
Sportsperson of the Year. This award is the "ultimate honor bestowed upon a senior student-athlete, who has demonstrated exceptional qualities both on and off the field." Senior
PresLee Hix of the softball was this year's award-winner. Hix was one of the top batters in the conference during her junior campaign, finishing the season with a stunning .415 batting average, good for 7th place amongst all players in the CCS, a conference featuring three nationally-ranked programs. She finished her career with 101 hits over her four year stint with the Scotties.Â
Associate Director of Athletics, Shanna Trone, presented several Scotties with Academic Honors as members of the "Elite Eight." These athletes currently have GPAs between 3.9 and 4.0. The athletes recognized were
Rachel Arwood (cross country),
Ashlee Parkey (soccer),
