DECATUR, Ga. -
Bailee DeShong, a senior midfielder for the Agnes Scott College soccer team, is a fierce competitor on the field as she loves reading the competition, and off the field she is a fierce advocate for expressing her creativity and helping others. A Psychology and Sociology major, Bailee is planning to pursue a Masters in the mental health field upon graduation. Ultimately, her goal is to embark on a career in social work.
Bailee credits the influence of her Agnes Scott support team, like her Summit Advisor, who was a steadfast pillar of academic support. She also notes the mentorship of her Sociology Professor, who inspired her interest in the field of social work. It is with this experience in mind that Bailee shared her greatest piece of advice for underclassmen: build rapport with your professors early on, as they will be more likely to open doors for you down the road if you spent the time to build a relationship. As well, Bailee shared that if you are hesitant to join a club, just do it, because you never know who you will meet there.
When reminiscing about her playing time, Bailee shared that her most memorable achievement was the goal she scored in her junior season against Trinity Baptist College. One of the things she is going to miss the most about soccer is the competitive mindset needed to be successful. In particular, she enjoys reading the competition to predict the moves they will make before they make them and figuring out how to counter them. Off the field, Bailee indulges in all things creative, including drawing, singing, sketching, and styling her own clothes. She is especially proud of the all-natural skincare and haircare products that she makes herself.
Looking towards the next chapter in her life, Bailee is confident that her time at Agnes Scott has primed her for her future vocation, and she looks forward to continuing to grow into her intended career.
