DECATUR, Ga. - Agnes Scott College has announced plans to add flag football to their intercollegiate athletics programs, with the goal to begin competition in the Spring of 2027.
Flag football is one of the fastest-growing sports in the NCAA. The NCAA has recommended adding the sport as an emerging sport, with a vote scheduled for January 2026, which would bring the sport closer to championship status. Over 65 colleges currently offer flag football at the varsity or club level. Over 40 schools plan to add the sport over the next two seasons, and two members of the Collegiate Conference of the South also offer flag football.
"Bringing flag football to Agnes Scott is about more than just adding a sport," commented Agnes Scott Director of Athletics, Dr. Kanika Richardson, "it's about creating opportunities. The program opens doors for women to compete, lead and build community in a fast-growing game that continues to break barriers at every level."
Internationally, the sport of flag football has surged in popularity, culminating in its inclusion in the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
A coaching announcement for flag football is expected soon. If you're interested in joining the Scotties' flag football program, email Operations Coordinator, Dr. Mori Turner, at mturner@agnesscott.edu.
