Scotties Drop 8-0 Decision to Birmingham-Southern College

Box Score

DECATUR, Ga.—Coming off a tie to Talladega College on Sunday, September 12, the feisty Scotties fell short in another tough bout at home to an all around balanced Birmingham Southern, this afternoon, with the final score of 8-0.

Birmingham Southern got clicking right from the whistle controlling the pace of the game with fine tuned passing around the pitch. Abby Walker opened up the scoring attack with a goal at the 6:29 mark that struck the net claiming the early 1-0 lead.

Agnes Scott attempted for multiple attacks but was unfortunate at goal. At the 27:44 mark Abby Rose created an opportunity for herself scoring the second goal of the game cracking the early two goal lead over the Scotties. The Scotties were able to hold defensively for the rest of the half as Birmingham Southern continued to pressure the Agnes Scott back line.

Agnes Scott struggled in the second half as it appeared as if BSC's conditioning began to show its advantage as the Scotties allowed another goal at the 51:56 minute mark to kick off the half falling behind 3-0.

BSC continued to pour it on Agnes Scott as Sophie Smith scored the Panthers fourth goal in the 54th minutes to make it 4-0 Birmingham Southern. ASC's defender Kaela Brooks attempted for a shot of her magic as she took a line drive shot attempt for goal but couldn't hit the target.

A foul by the Scotties yielded a penalty kick where Ansley Hicks scored. BSC wouldn't stop there as Ally Bridwell scored the Panthers to make the score 6-0. Agnes Scott was looking for that spark but was unable to find it as Birmingham Southern iced the game with back -to-back goals  that sealed the BSC victory with minutes left to play in the game.

Agnes Scott was out shot by a margin of 31-1. Ashley Kopczyk had seven (7) saves for the Agnes Scott College.

The Scotties look to bounce back as they return to action on Sunday, September 19, as they host Hollins. Kickoff is slated for 11 a.m. at Gellerstedt Field.
