Berea Survives Strong Scottie Effort 6-3

DECATUR, Ga.—Agnes Scott Tennis picked up its first three individual match victories of the season, but it was not enough to overcome a two-match deficit in a 6-3 loss to Berea College on Saturday.

It was only a matter of time before talented first-year Trestin Artkhaxa (Stockbridge, Ga.) would break through into the win column. Coming into the day, Arthaxa had played four tough matches in the top flight for the Scotties, but until Saturday, had been able to find a groove. It all changed against the Mountaineers, as Artkhaxa started the day with a convincing 8-1 win at first doubles while teaming up with Jacy Pippin (Atlanta, Ga.) before sweeping Agnes Dotse without dropping a single game.

Pippin also had a strong day for the Scotties. After cruising to the win at the top doubles slot with Artkhaxa, Pippin also managed a straight-set victory at 6-3, 6-1 over CJ Verbeck.

Berea started with a 2-0 advantage due to Agnes Scott having to drop two matches due to defaults and the Mountaineers were able to do damage at the lower flights to earn their first win of the season.

The Scotties are back in action next Saturday when they host their home finale versus LaGrange beginning at 1 p.m.
