Box Score DECATUR, Ga.—Agnes Scott volleyball shook off a slow start, but it was not enough as Huntingdon completed a three-set victory over the Scotties. Huntingdon came out swinging with a dominant 25-5 win in the first set before Agnes Scott woke up, making the Hawks earn the final two games 25-18, 25-19.
Amy Tyma led all players with 13 kills and a .500 mark, while Morgan Ilsley finished with 25 assists for the victors.
Agnes Scott's offense was paced by senior Tiara White (Sinton, Texas) as it has for much of the spring 2021 season. White and Summer Davis (Atlanta, Ga.) each piled up seven points individually in the losing effort.
The first set was one the Scotties would soon like to forget as Huntingdon did just about everything right while the home team could not catch a break. Huntingdon controlled the set from the opening serve and never looked back thanks to a hot start from Tyma on the outside.
Agnes Scott looked much more comfortable in the second set, but Huntingdon was still able to race out to an 18-11 lead to put themselves in position for a two-set lead. Agnes Scott fought back, closing the gap to 20-18 and forcing a timeout by the visitors. The shore break was exactly what the Hawks needed to revitalize their offense, winning five consecutive points to close out the game.
The third set was a seesaw battle with neither team able to put together substantial runs in the early going. Tied at 15, Huntingdon was able to tip the balance in their favor only to see Agnes Scott draw close again at 20-19. However, just as they did in the second set, Huntingdon won five straight points to stop the Scotties thoughts of a rally.
Ariel Henderson (College Park, Ga.) led Agnes Scott with 14 assists.
Agnes Scott (0-6) heads on the road on Saturday to take on conference foe Wesleyan College at 5 p.m.
