LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Agnes Scott (2-5, 0-3 Collegiate Conference of the South) traveled to Covenant today for two matches, falling first to the league-leading Scots (11-1, 5-0 CCS) and then to Regent (7-5) in a non-conference contest. Both contests were close throughout, but both ended in straight-set defeats for the Scotties.
In the opening contest against Covenant, the Scotties fell by set scores of 25-16, 25-15, 25-21. In a show of the Scotties' improvement, the Scots never allowed more than 13 points in a set against the Scotties a year ago through two matches.
Madison Stidum led Agnes Scott with 8 kills in the contest, and
Janae Erwing continued her strong play, adding 6 kills of her own.Â
In the second contest of the day, the Scotties built an early lead in the first set, before Regent stormed back to even the set and eventually fend off two set points, downing the Scotties, 27-25. On set point, first-year
Sydney Pannell went down with a leg injury which paused play for a lengthy period of time before leaving the contest. The Scotties would drop the next two sets, 25-12 and 25-20. Stidum (13 kills, 8 digs) and Erwing (5 kills, 10 digs) were the standouts once again for the Scotties.Â
Other strong performances on the day were from the setting duo of
Paityn Collins and
Kayden Carmack. Collins finished the day with 17 assists while Carmack collected 19.Â
The Scotties will return to play on Tuesday as they hit the road to take on CCS foe, Piedmont (8-6, 0-3 CCS).
