Box Score LAGRANGE, Ga.—A hat trick from Madison Demkowski pushed LaGrange College to a 4-0 victory over Agnes Scott on a damp Tuesday afternoon. The win pushes LaGrange to 2-4 on the season, while Agnes Scott falls to 0-5.
Demkowski got the scoring started in the 19th minute with a nice stop-and-go move on the left side, before hitting the top left corner from 20 yards out. The junior midfielder added another before the end of the half from a similar distance after finding some space underneath.
Ashley Kopczyk (Elgin, Ill.) continued her knack for finding big saves to keep the Scotties within striking distance, punching away two chances on the doorstep to keep it a 2-0 game at the half. Despite the pressure, Agnes Scott's defensive unit showed progress by forcing the Panthers to settle for attempts from deep. LaGrange was rarely able to get into a dangerous position for an easy shot opportunity.
Kopczyk made 13 stops for the Scotties over the course of 90 minutes.
LaGrange put themselves in prime position for putting the game away just a minute into the second half when Taylor Hamm finished off a ball from 20 yards out just past the diving Kopczyk.
The Scotties pushed more on the offensive end than they had in the first four games of the season. Senior Kaitlyn Staten (Hahira, Ga.) was a major reason why. Pushing up from her position as an anchor on defense, Staten was able to show off a combination of speed and nifty footwork to give the Scotties several chances in the second half. Staten registered Agnes Scott's first two shots on goal this season with balls inside the 18-yard box.
Ultimately, Demkowski was able to add third a goal of the game in a counter to make it a four-goal game, officially putting things out of reach in the 61st minute.
The Scotties continue their season this weekend when they host Berea College for senior day on Sunday.
