DECATUR, Ga. – The Agnes Scott College volleyball team is to travel to Demorest, Georgia for a conference matchup against the Lions of Piedmont University on Wednesday, October 20th. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. inside Cave Arena.
The Scotties of Agnes Scott College enter the contest yielding a 3-0 decision to Maryville and Wesleyan College on Sunday, October 17th.
Agnes Scott College traveled Sunday for conference matchups against Maryville and Wesleyan College falling 3-0 in both matches.
Summer Davis and Taylor Carnley led with four kills each and Carnley added eight (8) assists and seven digs to highlight the opening match against Maryville. Those set scores were 25-15, 25-13 and 25-12.
The second match against host Wesleyan saw Agnes Scott get five kills each from Alex Roquemore and Daisy Hooper. Taylor Carnley assisted the Scotties with 16 assists. The Scotties yielded a 25-17, 25-14 and 26-24 decision.
The Lions of Piedmont University enter the contest falling to Covenant and LaGrange College on October 16th.
The Piedmont volleyball team dropped a pair of matches against Covenant and LaGrange Saturday falling 3-0 to Covenant and 3-1 to LaGrange. The Lady Lions were able to rally against the Panthers to take the second set but unable to keep pace down the stretch.
Match 1: Covenant 3, Piedmont 0
In the first match, Covenant won by scores of 25-13, 25-15, 25-21. The final set saw Piedmont mount its best effort coming up just short of stealing a set.
The Scots took a 14-4 lead in the opening set and managed a similar stretch in the second set to lead 19-10. The third set saw Piedmont challenge and lead 10-6 and again at 12-9 before the Scots went on a 7-0 run to claim the lead.
Piedmont surged back in front 19-18 after a kill by JACLYN SAMPSON and a service ace by HANNAH KATE CHADWELL. From that point though, the Scots were in control and closed out the match.
BRI KING led Piedmont with eight kills while TAYLOR BROWN had 24 assists. JESSICA BEIL added 15 digs and Sarah DiCarlo added nine.
Match 2: LaGrange 3, Piedmont 1
The Panthers took the first set 25-17 before Piedmont rallied to tie it at one a piece with a 25-19 win of their own. In the third set, it was evenly matched but LaGrange edged out Piedmont with a 25-23 win and claimed the match with a 25-15 win in the final set.
LaGrange took a 6-1 lead out of the gate and Piedmont could not battle back as the Panthers led throughout the first set. In the second, Piedmont challenged early to take an 11-7 lead forcing a LaGrange timeout. The Lady Lions were able to take the second set after a strong start 25-19.
The third set was the closest of all with just two points deciding it. The Lady Lions led 22-20 before the Panthers made a four point run to make it set point. Piedmont managed to break the run with a kill by BRI KING, but the Panthers took the set on a kill of their own on the next point. The fourth was all Panthers as they charged ahead to take the match.
BRI KING had 10 kills while JENNA ASH and CIERA PHELPS both added nine. TAYLOR BROWN had 32 of Piedmont's 37 assists in the contest. Beil had 31 digs and both Brown and Ash added 11.
Up next, Piedmont will return home for action on Wednesday inside Cave Arena.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
-- TAYLOR BROWN had 24 assists against Covenant and another 32 against LaGrange.
-- BRI KING led Piedmont in both contests in total kills with 18 total Saturday.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
