Volleyball Topped Twice in USA South Quad

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

DEMOREST, Ga.—Brevard and Piedmont both bested Agnes Scott College volleyball by scores of 3-0 in a USA South quad Saturday at Piedmont College. The Scotties fell to the Tornados in the first match of the day before returning the court in a three-set loss to the host Lions.

Agnes Scott falls to 0-15 on the season and 0-7 in the conference.

Brevard 3 – 0 Agnes Scott (25-22, 25-18, 25-9)

The Scotties were hopeful for their first win of the season heading into a matchup with winless Brevard. The Tornados entered the day at 0-16 with only a few set victories to their name.

Agnes Scott looked ready to claim a one-set advantage, just one match after taking their first set of the season in a 3-1 loss to LaGrange. The Scotties led 22-19 with serve, but coughed up six straight points to turn an advantage into a one-set deficit.

Brevard built up its momentum from there, never getting much of a threat from the Scotties in the second or third sets.

Blythe Rafferty (Longmeadow, Mass.) had a career-high seven kills in the match, tying for the team-best with Musumaulai Galoia (Hephzibah, Ga.). Alex Roquemore (Dallas, Texas) also chipped in six kills.

Caroline Irving (Columbus, Ga.) finished with 20 assists, while Ahmanie Guillaume (Orlando, Fla.) led the defensive effort with 16 digs.

Piedmont 3 – 0 Agnes Scott (25-13, 25-19, 25-18)

After Piedmont ran away with the first set from beginning the end, Agnes Scott played much better in the final two sets against the Lions.

In both games, Agnes and Piedmont were within a point of each other in the late stages. However, Agnes' unfortunate tendency to give up runs late in sets allowed the Lions to secure victories in both games to complete the shutout.

Irving and Guillaume added more double-digit performances with 11 assists and 14 digs respectively.

What's Next?

The Scotties are off until next Saturday when they head to Covenant College to take on LaGrange and Huntingdon in another USA South quad.
