Box Score WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.—Zoey Perchaluk's (Fort Erie, Ont.) goal in the 64th minute helped Agnes Scott Soccer to a point on the season table, as the Scotties were able to manage a tie with Eastern Mennonite on Saturday afternoon—1-1.
Playing the third game in five days, Agnes Scott was desperately looking for something to build upon with the USA South slate quickly creeping up on them. Perchaluk had been responsible for assisting both of the Scotties' goals through a tough 0-3 start, but the junior was able to write her name in the goal column with a beautiful finish near the midway point of the second half.
The Royals controlled the statsheet in the first half, but were kept off the scoreboard by Scottie defense fighting off tired legs.
Perchaluk's finish gave the Scotties a 1-0 lead with 25 minutes to go in regulation, the team's first lead after an early strike in the opener at Oglethorpe.
The advantage lasted over 12 minutes of gameplay, but the Royals' persistent offense was eventually able to break through the wall with a goal off the foot of Liz Huffman.
Neither team was able to finish off a few close chances in either of the two 10-minute overtime periods and broke with a 1-1 draw.
Iara Moran (Marietta, Ga.) got the result in goal for the Scotties while making 11 stops.
"I'm really proud of how we played and fought today," said first-year head coach Eric Struble. "It's not easy playing back to back games, especially your third in five days. We played well and put ourselves in a position to win it. I'm proud of the progress we're making."
The Scotties road trip to start the season doesn't relent as they head to Piedmont (2-0-1) on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. kick.
