Dominant Doubles Lead Scotties to Win

DECATUR, Ga. - Agnes Scott won their second straight USA South Conference match, with a 7-2 victory over visiting LaGrange College on Saturday afternoon on the Agnes Scott campus. The Scotties (6-5, 2-2 USA South) used a strong performance in doubles to coast to an easy win over the Panthers (9-7, 3-2 USA South).

In the doubles, the Scotties raced past the Panthers at the No. 3 spot, as Olivia Rivas and Anastasia Bennett made quick work of Jia Lee and Carli Jones, winning 8-1 for the Scotties' first point. At No. 1, Taylor Lee and Lizzy Engsberg rattled off the last 6 games to take out Jenna Eppes and Elizabeth Knott, 8-3. The closest contest in doubles would be at No. 2, as Maddie Hoffman and Camille Wilson fought to an 8-5 win over Denney Meigs and Liz Minick.

In the singles, quick wins by Engsberg at No. 2 over Knott, and by Bennett over Jia Lee at No. 4 would clinch the match for the Scotties. The remaining four contests were a split, as Hoffman won at No. 1 over Eppes, 6-3, 7-6(3), and Wilson took down Betsy Markham at the No. 6 spot, winning 5-7, 6-2, 1-0(3). LaGrange would pick up a three-set win at No. 3 and Meigs took out Rivas, 7-5, 6-4, at the No. 5 spot.

The Scotties will continue USA South conference play on Wednesday, April 5, as they take on Wesleyan (Ga.) on the road.
