Box Score DECATUR, Ga. - The Agnes Scott College soccer team ramped up their offensive aggressiveness after a scoreless first half, and their change in tactics paid off to the tune of two second-half goals, as they rolled past LaGrange College, 2-0, today at their home turf. With the loss, the future USA South opponent falls to 4-12 on the season.
After a scoreless first half in which scoring opportunities were few and far between for both squads, the Scotties (5-8) scored twice in the second period to seal the win. Zoey Perchaluk, who leads the Scotties in scoring this season, had one opportunity go by the wayside in the first half, as her breakaway shot against the LaGrange goalkeeper met the right post in the 40th minute. However, she made up for that near miss in the second half, as she drove home a deflection from fellow first-year student Ashlyn Edwards, opening the scoring in the 57th minute to put the Scotties ahead, 1-0.
In all, the Scotties would take 20 shots in the contest, with 11 of those shots being on target. After several close calls for an insurance goal, Edwards once again provided an uncredited assist, as her shot from the right side deflected off the post and onto the foot of Caitlynn Croft, who drove home the insurance goal with 9 minutes left to play in the game.
"We played a much better second half," commented head coach Rosemary Davis. "If we can play 90 minutes like we played in the second half, we will be a tough team to beat."
In goal, Hannah Pasch secured her first victory for the Scotties, stopping all seven Panther shots on goal in the contest, as well as surprising the LaGrange offense when she came far out of the goal on a breakaway oppotunity and stole the ball from the LaGrange forward to preserve the shutout.
The Scotties return to action on Saturday, October 17 as they face off with Berea College at 11:00 a.m. on the campus of Agnes Scott College. Live stats will be available on the Agnes Scott College Athletics website.
