ATLANTA, Ga. – The Agnes Scott women's soccer team (2-4-0) got back on track with a win this afternoon against Oglethorpe (3-4-0) on the road, 1-0. Maddie Shaul scored her second goal of the season in the 5th minute, and the defense did the rest of the work by shutting out the Stormy Petrels and completing the Scotties' second shutout win of the season.
The contest was even throughout, with the Scotties narrowly outshooting the Stormy Petrels, 18-16, with 9 of those being shots on goal. Both goalies were busy throughout, as Scottie keeper Sydney Holstad registered 10 saves, and Bailey Evans registered eight saves of her own in a losing effort.
"It was a much-needed win for us this evening," beamed Scottie head coach Rosemary Davis, "and I was very happy with our effort."
The Scotties maintained an offensive mindset throughout the contest, with Helene Somda leading the way with seven shots, two of which were on goal. Schaul was economical, shooting five times with four of them on goal, including the game-winner off of an assist from Erin Innis. Stephanie Hicks also had three shots, two of which were stopped by Evans.
"This was a match where the team really worked hard for each other," continued Davis, "and that was great to see."
The Scotties return to action on Wednesday, October 1 at 4:00 p.m. as they host Berry College (6-2-0) in another strong regional match up. The Scotties begin conference play next Saturday, October 4 at 1:00 p.m.at home against defending GSAC Champion Salem College.
