Scotties Drop Semifinal in 2OT

Box Score

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - In a cruel twist of fate, the Agnes Scott soccer team, playing down five starters due to illness, dropped a 2OT game to Wesleyan College in the semifinals of the Great South Athletic Conference tournament, ending the season for the Scotties, 2-1.

The team, which was without two of their top three scorers, fought valiantly and even held the lead after the first half of play after a goal by Sarah Fisher.  However, eventually the Wolves were able to find a way to get a goal in the second overtime, ending the Scotties' season.

"I'm very proud of the way our team stepped up today and fought their hardest," commented head coach Rosemary Davis.  "It is almost unthinkable to have 6 of your players fall ill the night before a conference semifinal.  Maddie Shaul even came out and played while still extremely ill, and the bravery of our reserves who were asked to play almost the entire game, some with injuries, says a lot about the heart of our team."

The game marks the final contest for Shaul, Helene Somda (who was unable to play due to illness), and Staci Pereira.
