The Piedmont College Lions defeated the Agnes Scott Scotties today 2-1. Piedmont improves to 9-1-1 and Agnes Scott falls to 2-6.
Strong defense by Agnes Scott kept Piedmont from scoring for a full 41 minutes. Piedmont's Nikki Means scored the first goal with an assist by Savannah Castles. The score remained at 1-0 going into half-time.
In the second half, Helene Somda of Agnes Scott scored with an assist from Stephanie Hicks tying the game at 1-1 in the 66th minute. Agnes Scott's defense stayed strong throughout the second half but the Lions took advantage of some openings and scored their second goal a few minutes later to gain the lead.
Sophomore goalkeeper Sydney Holstad played 90 minutes in goal and gathered 11 saves.
The Scotties will return to action on Tuesday at home as they face former conference foe LaGrange College at 4 p.m. Admission is free.
