Box Score The Agnes Scott College volleyball team lost to Salem College this afternoon in five sets (25-19, 23-25, 25-21, 17-25 and 11-15). Agnes Scott took the first and third sets but Salem captured the final set for the win.
The two teams were evenly matched in attack percentage; Salem hit .106 while Agnes Scott hit .105. Agnes Scott had 51 kills to Salems 49. Agnes Scott led with 88 digs to Salem's 80 and 42 assists to 40. However, Salem had 0 ball handling errors while the Scotties had 3.
Leading the Scotties in kills was Morgan Bender with 14 (.140) as well as 18 digs and Lauren Aikens with 13 kills (.206). Sophomore Briana Vannoy led with 39 assists and five service aces. Shelli Sherman led with 28 digs and also added three service aces. Natali Rendon added 17 digs and one service ace. Leading the defense, Vannoy, Aikens and first-year Lexus Travis each had 4 blocks.
"Salem executed a good game plan today and we are looking forward to getting back to work on Monday" remarked head coach Catherine Geerlings.
The Scotties will return to action on Wednesday at home at 7 p.m. in a conference match against Wesleyan (Ga.) College.
