ATLANTA, Ga. - Agnes Scott hung tough with Southern Athletic Association's Oglethorpe (1-0) for over 80 minutes, in a tight contest, before two late goals put the game out of reach. The Stormy Petrels picked up the win by a final score of 4-1.
Throughout the contest, Agnes Scott was forced to play defense as Oglethorpe pressured a Scottie defense that bent but would not break until the closing moments of the match. Oglethorpe first got on the board in the 27th minute of the first half, as Delaney Hanks scored her first goal of the season off an assist from Harlow Cregar. Cregar would be the story of the day for the Stormy Petrels as she played a role in all 4 goals. While the Stormy Petrels continued to have opportunities, Scottie keeper
Olivia Rosario remained strong, saving 12 shots on the day. Their next goal would come off the foot of Cregar in the 71st minute, giving them a seemingly comfortable, 2-0, lead with 19 minutes to play. The Scotties, however, would shock the local rival with ten minutes to play. Â
The Scotties (0-2) scored their first goal of the young season as reserveÂ
Maahla Fofack drove a shot past a diving goalkeeper off the feed from
Iris Ray to close the contest to a 2-1 deficit with 10 minutes to play. A miscommunication on the Oglethorpe end of the field led to a loose ball at the feet of Ray, who quickly punched the ball forward to a wide open Fofack just outside the top of the box, who made no hesitation in firing her first shot and first-ever goal of her college career. Her shot into the bottom of the right corner set off celebrations for the Scotties, who scored on the Stormy Petrels for the first time since 2022. Â
The Scotties' comeback attempt would be stifled quickly, however, as Cregar would feed her teammate, Izzy Aurelia, in the 83rd minute, to stretch the lead to 3-1, before finishing off the contest off of a rebound from the crossbar, scoring her 6th point of the contest (2 goals, 2 assists) for the final, 4-1, win. Oglethorpe would outshoot the Scotties, 38-2, in the contest. The Scotties did have one other shot on goal, with
Damaris Gaines firing a shot that was saved by Oglethorpe in the 60th minute.
The Scotties will hit the road this weekend, as they travel to the Tarheel state for matches against Warren Wilson and Salem College.Â
